The budgerigar’s grey feathers are inherently part of a production process. The process began with the first display of a stuffed exhibit in the museum of the Linnean Society in London.
As a result, budgerigars were imported from Australia as luxury items, but the Australian government imposed a ban when exports started growing in size. In order to cater for the strong demand, breeding farms sprang up in Europe. Mass breeding brought the budgerigar’s mutability to light. Unlike the original, with its pale green camouflage, the mutated birds were yellow, white, grey or many other colours. Colourfulness thereby became the production criterion for the domestic breed.

The gallery had been painted grey for the previous Rembrandt exhibition. Due to its similarity of colour with its surroundings, the exhibit described in the classified ad disappears. The gallery and all the objects in it become possible dwelling place.
